Nitrageet (Dance Group)

Awarded: 2015

The Nadira and Indranie Shah Dance Troupe was among the first to introduce Indian dance shows at the Cultural centre which included drama, poetry and heavy elements of folk along with Indian classical forms. The passing of one of the sisters a few years ago did not deter the 30 plus year run of the show. Seeta Shah Roath was Director for most of these shows. 

Gerry Gittens (Costumes and Installations)

Awarded: 2015

Few people may know his name but many would have marvelled at his work in installation over the last 50 years. His innovative techniques, creativity, experimentation, vision  and passion for use of traditional  images and materials in creation of his monster sized masterpieces is to be recognised. His work adorned the archways of many Guyexpos, Main street Fairs, Public Buildings, Exhibitions, Mash Floats, Installations at special events and his was the 40 foot Jaguar that moved arcos the grounds at Carifesta X. 

The Yoruba Singers

Awarded: 2015

This awardee has preserved and promoted Afro Caribbean Folk Music for 50 years with songs such as Cre-ke-te and Neighbour Jean. Few bands in the world, let alone the Caribbean could boast a 50 year lifespan.

Dave Martins

Awarded: 2015

This awardee has popularized a particular sound of Guyana and the Caribbean all over the world. An original member of the Guild, story teller, arts commentator and performer his music and work has enriched our lives for decades.

Icon of the Arts Award

These person’s or groups must have been associated with the Guild and must have been involved in the arts in Guyana, adding value and excellence in the cultural space of the wider society for over 20 years.

Hector Stoute

Awarded: 2015

This awardee has produced some of the first musical variety shows in Guyana and did so consistently for over 30 years. He  was also among the first to promote calypso and international artistes in Guyana.
